Sound Contour

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 30, 2026

Sound Contour is a system-wide audio equalizer for macOS, with an optional iPhone companion app. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it. The short version: we do not collect, sell, or share any of your data.

Data we collect

None. Sound Contour has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs. It does not send your information to us or to anyone else.

Free trial

Sound Contour does not require an account. To know when your 7-day free trial ends, the app saves the date your trial started on your device (in the app's settings and your device's Keychain). This date stays on your device.

Purchases

The one-time Sound Contour Pro purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment information.

Your settings and presets

Your equalizer settings and presets are stored on your device. If you use iCloud, they may sync between your own devices through your private iCloud account, which Apple operates. We cannot access your iCloud data.

Audio and the "Screen & System Audio Recording" permission

To apply the equalizer to sound from other apps, macOS requires Sound Contour to have the "System Audio Recording Only" permission, which appears in System Settings under Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.

Sound Contour does not record, capture, view, or access your screen, windows, or any visual content, and it never requests full Screen Recording access. It only uses Apple's Core Audio system audio tap, which provides the audio your Mac is already playing.

That audio is processed in real time, entirely on your Mac, only to apply the equalizer, bass, treble, and other sound adjustments you choose. It is then played back through your selected output device. Audio is never recorded, saved to disk, stored, transcribed, analyzed for content, or sent to us or to any third party. It exists only briefly in memory while it is being played, and is discarded immediately afterward. No audio or screen data is retained.

iPhone companion app

The companion app talks directly to Sound Contour on your Mac over your local network. That connection stays on your network and does not go through any server. It sends only your equalizer settings and simple volume-level numbers used to draw the level meter on your iPhone. No audio is ever sent to your iPhone or anywhere else.

Do Not Track

Sound Contour has no tracking of any kind, so there is nothing for a "Do Not Track" signal to turn off. It treats every user as if Do Not Track is on.

Children and age

Sound Contour does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. In states whose laws require it, Apple tells the iPhone companion app whether a user is under 18; in those states the iPhone app is only available to people 18 and older. The app receives only an age range from Apple, never a birth date, and it is not stored anywhere except on the iPhone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
